  1. We’ve been waiting for a year for the Mac version of this game to come out-it’s great!

  2. I spent around 70 hours playing this game. In the end I never got a movie deal. Never got famous. And never met Penelope Cruise. My job, my home, my dog, my ego all have left me. Now I have to play WOW just to have fun wasting my time. No but really, decent game if you love Sims but it’s addicting and sometimes VERY annoying especially when you can’t finish you $10,000,000 blockbuster because your maintenance guys are no where to be found. Or, you haven’t hired any but thats not your fault! You’ve been working on the next Matrix knock off set in the middle ages. It’s going to be great Neo renamed David for the time period has to save the world by flying! It’s awesome. You could watch it on “The Movies” user created content website if I weren’t too much of a slacker to upload it. Have fun playing if you do buy, but I’d highly recommend getting Screenwriter instead and putting your brainpower to actually production work that may turn into a B movie deal someday. AH-

  3. I have had problems with Feral’s products before — Sim Theme Park comes to mind (they released a patch 4 years after I purchased it — no lie) — and while the Demo runs smoothly on several of my Macs, I cannot get the purchased game to install on any of my machines. When the Movies Installer reaches “0 files left to install,” it stays there forever.

Update: Feral says that once the installer indicates it is done, one should wait 20 minutes and let the installer keep running. I tried it and it actually worked, although I cannot think of any reason I would be expected to know or try this.

However, a caveat to mac owners — the small print in the tech specs warns that the game supposedly will not run on MACBOOKS (as opposed to the Pro line). Although the release is a Universal binary (runs on Intel macs), it allegedly does not run on any machine that shares graphics memory with system memory — which applies to all Macbooks on the market as of this writing.

Update: as commenter Ditz noted, although Feral claims the game will not run on shared memory systems it apparently does. You can be sure that if yo have problems, however, they will say that they do not support it.

I would give it more stars now than when I originally wrote this reveiw, since the game seems moderately enjoyable.

The tutorial is fairly helpful, but it does not tell you how to delete buildings, for instance. The makeover building is supposed to help your stars improve their images, but this usually consists of simply picking out the most fashionable outfit.

It becomes a little frustrating locating your screenwriters and dragging them back to their desks. There is no reason to have a screenwriter ever doing anything besides writing (since they never get stressed or overworked) — but finding staff members and putting them to work should be easier.

This is a good game which would be excellent if they made the interface allow you to more easily accomplish tasks that you have to constantly repeat.

And it is true, as other reviewers have said, that the twenties women look like me in drag. Very odd.

  4. It’s all I’ve every wanted to do, make my own little movies, and this game provides me with a good foundation for that. It’s like Sims, but a much cooler idea, at least in my opinion. I don’t use the mogul bits of the game, so my review might not be suitable to help everyone who reads it. I go straight to the Sandbox mode where I can have ultimate control and make my little films. The trouble with the game is it’s so very limited in terms of sets, costumes, etc, though there are forums with lots of great user created content to draw from. I’m currently on a Mac, so there are a few things that don’t work as well or as smoothly as on PC. My original actors don’t hold their features on my computer, sadly… so I’ll be inheriting a PC laptop soon and start to create all of my films there instead. This will also open up the loads of great user content that I can’t utilize on my mac either. The export feature is so easy!!! Overall, I do love this game and just wish the developers would release a nice updated version with lots more stuff and capabilities included.

  5. The game was fun to play but the company the put out the game does not pay attention to it, I have a brand new 24 inch i mac loaded and the game had weird graphical issues that there seems to be no patches or updates to fix it, It got so bad that i couldn’t even play the game. Oh well, for now i will stick to windows for my pc games.
